In this paper, we reflected on the idea of legacy of major sporting events and, in particular, three aspects of social legacy: education, human and social capital and sport. The potential benefits for the resident population is presented as a field that requires increasing attention, especially by politicians and event promoters. However it is noted that they are not fully examined the empirical foundations of assessment data such potential. The potential of a legacy of widespread increase in sport is a classic example of the contrast between rhetoric and research. AbundandQ on the idea that successful elite sport encourages the increase in sport, one of the main attractions of the London 2012 bid was the potential to enhance the growth of sports in the country.
