Abstract
Scotland’s '1+2 languages' policy requires innovative teaching approaches. This presentation explores how Initial Teacher Education (ITE) can introduce ‘local languages pedagogies’ in such programmes, with Mandarin Chinese as a context, to better prepare student teachers for linguistic diversity, promoting inclusivity and cultural relevance in their future classrooms.
