Abstract
How do we know when a child is developing normally? In terms of physical development, we have numerous indicators, ranging from height and weight to dexterity and strength. But what about the development of intellect, emotional stability, or the ability to create and maintain social relationships? How do we know what is normal in the first place? And what should we do when a child’s development in one of these areas appears to be impaired? Is it the child that should be adjusted, or the environment in which the child lives?
