The cardioprotective effects of polyphenols appear promising: however, their mechanism of action in cardiomycytes remains unknown. CaMKII is an important intracellular modulator of normal cardiac contractility and, when overly activated, can promote contractile dysfunction. This study investigates whether trans-isoferulic acid (TIA) and gallic acid (GA) can alter CaMKII activity in cardiac tissue.
