Abstract

The presentation describes the slow progress in Open Access implementation against the stated objective of full immediate access by 2020 that has given rise to Plan S and goes through its principles and requirements for Open Access publishing. It's argued that there is no single strategy for an effective implementation of Plan S, but that this will instead involve a combination of different co-existing paths including Read & Publish deals with publishers, Green Open Access with no embargo periods (presumably via the UK Scholarly Communications Licence), pre-prints and the exploration of new business models for learned societies.
