Abstract

This paper presented a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for switched reluctance generator (SRG) based wind generation system (WGS). The fundamental principle of the MPPT algorithm is based on monitoring the SRG's output power and shaft speed to adjust the excitation phase current of SRG. The advantages of the proposed MPPT algorithm are that no knowledge of the wind turbine characteristics or measurement of the wind speed is required. In this paper the MPPT algorithm was modeled and simulated using MATLAB software, an experimental test system was developed in lab; the results of simulation and experimental test were used to prove its feasibility.
