Abstract

Maintenance is now considered to be a cost effective rather than a forced and unnecessary option for companies Therefore, more innovative maintenance techniques such as preventive and predictive methodologies are developed alongside their corrective counterparts. As a result, numerous maintenance policies using predictive and preventive tasking systems have been developed such as the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) . In this paper, full literature review has been carried out on most commonly used maintenance systems for offshore and marine industry. This paper introduces an innovative business and reliability based maintenance framework called Business Oriented Reliability Based Maintenance (BORM). Thus, this paper discusses a variety of tools and concepts developed in the industry in more detail. Additionally, it discusses the mathematics behind the Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) tool of as part of the BORM methodology and introduces a BBN case study on Subsea control system. Finally, it recommends possible future work in order to improve this framework.
