This report details a situation analysis which was undertaken in line with the WHO publication Guidelines for Developing and Implementing National Food Safety Policy and Strategic Plan, and the FAO/WHO publication Assuring food safety and quality: guidelines for strengthening national food control systems. The study assessed the key components of the current national food safety system through a review of literature and interviews with key informants (n=66) to achieve the following objectives: a. analyse the performance of the different components of the national food safety system b. Identify strengths and weaknesses with special emphasis on policy issues to be addressed in the development of policies and action plans. c.
