Abstract

Copenhagen House Value: £7.9 Million Client: Hugh McKay Retirement Benefit Scheme Location: Hope Street, Glasgow Status: Completion December 2010 Key Staff: Mark Philp The site is located on the west side of Hope Street opposite the Central Station Hotel. Originally, the office development is located above an existing nightclub occupying the ground and first floors of the building. The brief required that the nightclub remained fully operational during the refurbishment of moribund offices along with an infill extension to provide continuous premium office accommodation. From street level the office building imposes a separate identity to that of the nightclub with the office entrance accessed from 57 Hope Street through an all-glass frontage opening out into a dramatic three storey high void accommodating vertical circulation and reception. Above the three storey entrance foyer a glass curtain wall extends to eight storeys with the uppermost storeys set back to the line of the adjoining roofscape of 67 Hope Street. The intention is that this simplicity of detail will compliment and not compete with the ornate Listed Facades of its neighbours, at the same time invigorating the composition of the streetscape generally.
