This paper presents the results of a survey of the marketing activities of Scottish small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), which paid particular attention to the issue of company promotion and sponsorship activities. The main results demonstrate that few SMEs engage in sponsorship activities and those that do prefer local charities and events. The results do, however, suggest that while few SMEs currently engage in sponsorship activities, there are a number of factors which would influence company sponsorship decisions and certain benefits that they need to receive.
