Abstract
Students need to believe in their own abilities to put effort into learning. This is particularly true of learning via video as there is no teacher there to provide direct encouragement. In a new study researchers collected eye-tracking information from students learning chemistry via instructional videos to explore how teacher enthusiasm affected cognitive load, attention, self-efficacy and performance. Most of the findings are applicable to your 'live' teaching practice too.
