This chapter focuses on a mixed methods approach to case study research. Within the chapter we will consider the importance of conducting case study research and the specific in-depth knowledge that can be gained from studying individual cases. We suggest that case study research illuminates key information about process that can be related to outcome that is not possible in large scale outcome based trials. We will present the key features of Hermeneutic Single Case Efficacy Design (HSCED) and provide an outline step by step guide to conducting such case studies. We also present a brief example.
