System design and engineering is fundamental to the creation of the devices and technologies that have become a large part of our lives. Technology companies, motor vehicle manufacturers and inventors go through this process to develop all kinds of luxuries and necessities for everyday life in the 21st century. Often from the perspective of the user, the means as to how their products were created is not of concern; it works so it doesn’t matter. To the designer, the methods and methodologies are very important tools in their belt, but some tools are better suited to the job than others. Current methodologies, such as Mechatronic V-Model, provide decision making knowledge and support to designers and enable simple platforms as the basis for development.
