The UK stands on the brink of an exciting new frontier in space, with the global space economy projected to exceed £490 billion by 2030. However, as space becomes a critical hub for national security, communications, and global infrastructure, it also becomes a target for cyber threats. This report outlines how the UK can position itself as the world’s "Cyber-Safe Gateway to Space," blending innovation with robust security to lead the future of space exploration and innovation. The rapid expansion of space ventures, particularly from the UK's dynamic SMEs, presents unparalleled opportunities for innovation and economic growth. Yet, these opportunities come with increasing cyber risks—from sophisticated state-sponsored attacks to potential insider threats. Drawing on insights from experts, this report highlights the urgent need to embed cybersecurity at the core of space initiatives, transforming it from a secondary concern into a key pillar of space strategy. Through a forward-thinking approach, the report offers strategic recommendations to turn these challenges into opportunities. By supporting SMEs, closing the talent gap with tailored multidisciplinary training, and aligning investment incentives with advanced cybersecurity measures, the UK can attract global talent, foster innovation, and secure its space infrastructure.
