Abstract

The Tourism Law of the People's Republic of China (the Chinese Tourism Law 2013) directed at empowering and protecting package tour travellers came into force commencing on 1 October 2013. This is the first national tourism law in China, focusing on low-fare package tours, the unsustainable development of tourism resources, and uncivilised tourist behaviours. This chapter will examine the effectiveness of this law in protecting tourists’ benefits by governing low-fare package tours which remain in a chaotic state.
