Abstract

The application of proton beams generated with high-intensity lasers to medical isotope production was discussed. The laser beams focused to intensities of 6×1019 W/cm2 with 6-μm-thin foil targets. The results showed that the positron-emission tomography isotope production scheme was comparable to using conventional accelerators.
