Abstract

Given these recent policy developments, the aim of this paper is to review national approaches to regional policy in the Member States and the Candidate Countries with a view to raising some discussion issues about possible future policy directions. The paper is in five further sections. Drawing on a range of EPRC research, the following four sections consider the regional policies of the EU Member States and the Candidate Countries , examining in turn: the main regional policy instruments; the degree to which policy is spatially targeted; levels of regional policy expenditure and policy delivery mechanisms. A final section (Section 6) draws together some themes and questions for discussion.
