Abstract
In the coal dispute use of the Employment Acts has so far have been by small haulage firms dependent upon a limited range of contracts for survival. When these contracts are put in jeopardy use of the Employment Acts becomes attractive. This economic perspective examines the latest disputes in the coal industry and explores the relevance of the new employment legislation in what is an unfolding and on-going dispute.
