Abstract

The revival in economic activity in Scotland which occurred in 1978 is unlikely to be maintained during 1979.The overall index of industrial production for Scotland rose by 1.7 points between the first and second quarters of 1978 to 107.8. It must be emphasised however, that these indices are provisional and subject to revision, as in the case of the first quarter index which has been revised downwards from that quoted in the last Commentary. Detailed analyses of the latest Scottish production, unemployment, and investment data are provided.
