Abstract
The SCBS was conducted between 9 July and 17 August and the results refer to the three months ending July 1990. The CBI Industrial Trends Survey was conducted between 27 June and 18 July 1990. Both were carried out before the Gulf Crisis began, therefore the results were not influenced by this factor. The Surveys took place against a backdrop of rising inflation and continuing high interest rates. Detailed analyses of industrial output, business confidence, macroeconomic conditions and labour market trends are also provided.
