Abstract

A simple preparative-scale adsorption chromatographic method for separating a commercially available polyethylene mono-alcohol from its non-functional polyethylene impurities has been established using silica as the stationary phase and toluene at 75°C as the isocratic eluant. Characterization of the chromatographic fractions by 1H-NMR spectroscopy also provided unexpected comprehensive information on the molecular structure and molar mass distribution of the polyethylene mono-alcohol.
