The aim of this instructional course is to provide an overview of the participation in physical activity, exercise and sports for those who have challenged mobility. In particular, the audience will gain an understanding of the importance of physical fitness and sports participation for those who use prostheses, with an emphasis on achievable lifestyle goals for optimal health. Specific prosthesis user populations will be discussed; the younger population whose skills can be fostered in order that they might become the sports masters of the future; and the adult and more sedentary populations, who can become empowered to appreciate the social, physical and psychological advantages of keeping fit.
