A number ofkey features make the IBM PC AT personal computer a suitable vehicle for electrophysiological signal analysis software which previously required the use of minicomputers such as the PDPI 1. In particular the availability of a direct memory access (DMA) controller and a fast high-capacity fixed disc allows continuous streams of samples to be collected from an analogue-digital converter at high rates, limited only by the capacity of the disc. A suite of programs has been developed for analysis of a variety of electrophysiological experiments.
