Abstract

Discusses the duties of Scottish education authorities in relation to meeting the educational needs of autistic children by reference to two cases heard in early 2011: (1) a Scottish case concerning the failure of an education authority to accede to a parental request for their child to be placed at a residential school at a cost five times greater than that of placing the child at the school preferred by the local authority; and (2) an English case concerning whether a child educated at a residential school retained his looked-after child status on turning 18.
