The influence of the radio access network topology on the performance of cellular IP (CIP) is considered in a typical cellular environment. A parameter termed the 'crossover distance' is defined and adopted to show the effect of the topology on CIP packet loss. Some conclusions are provided on the implementation of CIP in realistic cellular layouts.
