Abstract

Discusses whether district registrars could use the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 art.9 to refuse to take part in civil partnership registrations and to counter any dismissal that may result from their actions. Considers jurisprudence from the European Court of Human Rights on the infringement of art.9 rights and the scope of the exception to sexual orientation discrimination in the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 reg.7.
