Abstract

This paper investigates a new method to calibrate a tensile specimen with strain gauges to measure force over the full range of loading at intermediate strain rate for use in high rate testing. This paper investigates both new and current force calibration methods to determine the best position to place strain gauges to achieve a consistent high accuracy in force measurement. Numerical modelling supports the investigations herein although extensive lab testing at the IARC suggests confidence in the findings.
