This is a four part article. The first part is by Diane Parris, the second is by Laura Steckley, responding to the arguments posed in part one. The third part is comprised of Parris' rejoinder to Steckley's response, and the fourth is Steckley's rejoinder to Parris' rejoinder. The central arguments revolve around whether children and young people purposely elicit physical restraint, and whether physical restraint can be part of an overall therapeutic experience.
