A text book providing a thorough introduction to the design and application of industrial robotics. The book is in three sections, the first 'An Overview' contains the introduction, a tongue in cheek 'Origin of the Robot Species', and 15 page chapter on classification and description of industrial robots. The section - Robot Design and Control-is nearly 190 pages long and is divided into nine chapters. Each chapter is dedicated to a particular aspect of robot design or control including subjects such as transmission systems and power drives, which other books ignore or allocate only a few lines at the most.
