Abstract
Highlights: The optimization strategies towards surface texturing for friction reduction are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of surface texturing with their pros and cons are described. The notable applications of surface texturing for friction reduction are summarized. The challenges of operation range, stability, and load-bearing capacity of friction reduction for surface texturing are prospected.
