Abstract

Climate change and the resulting need to decarbonize our society are crucial challenges for our generation. Carbon capture, transport and storage can aid in meeting Net Zero 2050 goals. In this paper, the viability of the transportation trade of liquified CO2 using carrier vessels is considered. The parcels and network nodes are discussed and a multiobjective design methodology is applied to select the optimal ammonia-fuelled ship design for fuel efficiency, minimum required freight rate (RFR) and carbon equivalent footprint (CO2e). The results are discussed and areas for future research are identified.
