Abstract
The movement towards 'open science', or 'open research', has introduced increased openness in many aspects of the research lifecycle. A renewed interest in ensuring transparency and accessibility in the creation, dissemination and sharing of research knowledge is core to open science. This session will therefore provide an introduction to open science and, in particular, explore two important but related tenets of open science: Open Access and Open Data. Recent massive growth in the volume of Open Access research has been facilitated principally by a mature global repository infrastructure, the policies of research funders and the activities of research libraries. The session will explore the motivations behind Open Access and Open Data, its core concepts and enabling technologies, while also exploring the symbiotic relationship Open Access has with Open Data.
