This article introduces the EEBO-TCP Phase 1 corpus, which allows scholars of Early Modern Literature and Culture to search 20,000+ printed volumes from the period. We consider the implications of this in terms of practicality, methodology, and theory: how do we access the texts? how do we measure and compare them? how does their availability change our object of study?
