Open Access research that is exploring the innovative potential of sustainable design solutions in architecture and urban planning...

Strathprints makes available scholarly Open Access content by researchers in the Department of Architecture based within the Faculty of Engineering.

Research activity at Architecture explores a wide variety of significant research areas within architecture and the built environment. Among these is the better exploitation of innovative construction technologies and ICT to optimise 'total building performance', as well as reduce waste and environmental impact. Sustainable architectural and urban design is an important component of this. To this end, the Cluster for Research in Design and Sustainability (CRiDS) focuses its research energies towards developing resilient responses to the social, environmental and economic challenges associated with urbanism and cities, in both the developed and developing world.

Abstract

This book is one of the results of research collaboration on the project Spatial, Environmental, Energy and Social Aspects of Development of Settlements and Climate Change, funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia from 01/02/2011 until 31/12/2015. Dr Mila Pucar leads the research team from six research institutions. The project co‐ordinator is the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia (IAUS). The project participants are the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade (AF‐UB), the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade (GF‐UB), the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Belgrade (ETF‐UB), the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics of the University of  Niš (PMF‐UN), the Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ITN‐SANU).   Dr Branka Dimitrijević, Professor at the School of Enginering and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University, collaborates on this project. She wrote the report on policies and practice in Scotland related to the project theme. Dr Dimitrijević delivered a seminar about the report Impact of Climate Change on Policy and Practice in Spatial, Ecological, Energy and Social Planning of Settlements in Scotland in October 2011. Knowledge exchange within the project continued through a series of papers by researchers of IAUS and AF‐UB about the related policies and practice in Serbia. The research papers follow the chapters written by Dr Dimitrijević and enable a comparison of policies and practice in Scotland and Serbia.
