This book examines the ethical dilemmas, professional expectations and cultural influences involved in the reporting of death, tragedy and bereavement of ordinary citizens. It advances a new model of ethical co-operation between the journalist and interviewee – one of context, consent and control – as a means of effecting more responsible reporting of the bereaved. This book will fill a gap in the market as there is currently no text which analyses journalists' reporting of death affecting ordinary citizens or the bereaved's participation in the journalistic process.
