Abstract

This is the first guide to the grotesque that relates the critical term to contemporary theoretical paradigms and modes of representation. Thus, the volume contributes to the invaluable introductory guides in the New Critical Idiom series by providing an accessible presentation of the critical term ‘the grotesque’. The authors offer a handy, explanatory guide to the use (and abuse) of the grotesque. But they also present an original and distinctive overview of ‘the grotesque’ as it relates to the larger field of cultural representation, particularly in literature, visual art and film.
