An optical fibre polarimetric sensor is discussed for monitoring the acoustic output of an immersion sonar transducer in the frequency range around 250 kHz. It is shown that the sensor was suitable for both narrowband and broadband applications, and experimental results are presented to compare the measured sensor output with numerical models. Applications for the sensor include periodic sonar array calibration, and real time compensation to modify output acoustic field characteristics.
