Developing mathematical theories of the physical world: Open Access research on fluid dynamics from Strathclyde

Strathprints makes available Open Access scholarly outputs by Strathclyde's Department of Mathematics & Statistics, where continuum mechanics and industrial mathematics is a specialism. Such research seeks to understand fluid dynamics, among many other related areas such as liquid crystals and droplet evaporation.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics also demonstrates expertise in population modelling & epidemiology, stochastic analysis, applied analysis and scientific computing. Access world leading mathematical and statistical Open Access research!

Abstract

This paper presents work on a project researching the contribution which franchising can make to improved responsiveness among manufacturing companies. A number of papers have been published already. This paper considers the established practices of franchising in the service industry and the extent to which they can be applied directly in manufacturing or whether different approaches are needed. The paper presents a definition of manufacturing franchising, indicating key characteristics. The typical steps in establishing a franchise are presented. This is followed by a discussion of the principal aspects of franchising, indicating their likely impact in manufacturing. The conclusion summarises the key points of this discussion.
