Abstract

The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) was commissioned by the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner to undertake a consultation with children and young people as part of the Commissioner’s wider Joint Assurance review of the acquisition of biometric data from children arrested in Scotland. It’s aim is to assess the law, procedure and practice related to the acquisition, retention, use, and destruction of biometric data relating to children, young people and vulnerable adults. The Thematic Review of Biometric Data Relating to Children and Vulnerable Adults was written by CYCJ’s Holly Maclean and Julia Swann. Their consultation qualitatively explores the perspectives and experiences of care and justice experienced children and young people in relation to the collection and retention of biometric data by police.
