Abstract

The COVID pandemic has changed the way people travel and work, which would potentially last many years even longer. To better understand commuters' travel behaviour in light of unexpected transport disruption events and to recognise the ‘new normal’ as reflected by an increase in hybrid working, this paper investigates commuters’ activity-travel rescheduling behaviour, particularly towards teleworking and disruption perception, based on the data collected through an online survey. Different high-fidelity scenarios have been designed and tested, presenting varying levels of importance and flexibility of events at work. In addition, time pressure was taken into consideration and its effect on choice making was examined. The results not only reveal the patterns of activity-travel rescheduling behaviour in coping with varying situations at work, but also implies that commuters’ subjective perception of transport disturbances appears to have abated. This study adds to the knowledge of commuter travel behaviour in the post-COVID era.
