Abstract

The new coronavirus pandemic has challenged the world due to its rapid contamination, enhanced by globalization. Prevention and control measures try to save health systems. In Brazil, populations living in slums lack safe conditions for the necessary social isolation, in addition to lacking basic sanitation and access to hygiene products. In this sense, this study describes a process of voluntary mobilization of researchers in an initiative to assess the potential impacts of different public policies in combating the pandemic. These proposals were raised with the communities in order to understand their potential effects on hospital availability in the public health system and the number of potentially saved lives.
