Abstract
An update is provided for a Spanish-speaking audience in Latin America on the most recent trends in the implementation of Open Science and Open Access in Europe and the United Kingdom. These include among others the increasingly subject-specific approach to Open Science implementation, the Read & Publish or "transformative" agreements with publishers in the area of Open Access and the key role that Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) play in the institutional implementation of Open Science at many HEIs in Europe and elsewhere by linking research outputs (publications, research data, software, patents) to other CERIF entities such as research projects, researchers, their affiliations and research equipment and facilities. All these recent developments notwithstanding, emphasis is made on the key asset of applicable Open Access policies. UK Open Access policies are reviewed from a Strathclyde perspective and shown as the main reason for the outstanding position (4th in the world) the University has in the CWTS Open Access ranking 2020.
