Abstract
Organizations tend to look for the new technologies and lean Six Sigma production techniques to enhance the production floors, manufacturing processes and operational improvements by the product design and development throughout the life cycle, for which product goes through Cost Estimation process of the design improvement which plays a critical part of the re-manufacturing based on required demand of the customers. Estimating cost has become a major business driver in many industries, as it is the key for all strategic decisions that might allow a company to remain competitive in this era of globalization. Having a capability to estimate the required design change and the re-manufacturing cost of the product can be a key business driver to decide for many industries. Cost driven strategies are critical for the product manufacturers’ in-order to be remaining competitive in today’s globalization. Product design such a way, that they can have multiple life cycles and can be easily re-manufacture at the End of Life due to production process knowledge and manufacturing capabilities of the best practice is available to bring the product back to the latest product design changes which requires capability for the organization of the cost and parametric cost trade-offs for the key processes for the cost reduction throughout the life cycles. Marine equipment manufacturer wants to develop a capability for the Design-To-Cost estimation of the radar system to support decision making teams such as Product Line Managers and Production Managers. Product structure cost estimation method was used for the parametric cost estimation approach, it has developed the prototype design platform for the re-manufacturing cost saving estimation tool, which verify and validated based on a Cost Saving Model.
