An energy yield assessment has been carried out for the proposed 100MW Mzimba wind farm in Malawi on behalf of the University of Strathclyde. The long-term wind distribution was based on approximately 12 months of site data from the 70m Mzimba mast. This was correlated with MERRA reanalysis data and sheared to a hub height of 80m. The long-term 80m wind speed at the Mzimba mast location is 8.13 m/s. The proposed project comprises fifty 2MW wind turbine generators (WTGs). P50 and P90 values (including 20 years inter-annual variation in wind speed) are summarised.
