The methodology of contextualized explanation is ideal for answering “how” questions in strategy research. The majority of strategy research addresses “why” questions. It produces results that indicate the extent to which variables correlate with each other. Questions that start with “how” probe the arrows that link the boxes. What is it that actually happens that makes that one variable causally linked with another variable?
