Abstract
In July 1996, Scottish unemployment rose by 14396 to stand at 206,099. This represents a monthly rise of 1VI% and leaves 8V4% of the Scottish workforce without a job. The male count rose by 5,146 or by 3V£% whilst female jobless increased by 9,250 or 21%. Male unemployment currendy stands at 152,768 or 11.3% of the male workforce and female jobless at 53,331 or 4.9% of the female workforce.
