The chapter first discusses the status of cognitive maps and goes on to pay attention to issues in capturing individuality. This is followed by a plea of comparisons to be made which attend to differences and similarities in meaning (structural and contextual properties) as well as suggestions about how this might be done when computer software is available to investigate many properties of a map. Finally, the chapter argues for an holistic approach to comparison by declaring the properties of a map as a systemic portfolio of ways of viewing the map.
