Abstract

Through research and working with a number of organizations the authors have developed an approach to planning for strategic change. The planner is ‘change agent’—a facilitator who helps operating managers to plan rather than presenting them with a corporate plan devised solely by planners. The key features of this approach are described, an important factor being the use of an external consultant as change agent—someone outside the company politics—and the need to invite to the planning meeting all the people whose active involvement is essential to the implementation of the plan.
