A novel symmetrical component interpretation of multi-phase auxiliary vector spaces is presented. The symmetrical component and auxiliary vector space conversion is used to analyse the effect of auxiliary vector space currents in the operation of faulty, concentrated winding machines. Optimisation of drive performance under four and three phase operation of a five phase machine is presented as an example.
