This paper seeks to provide a comprehensive review of the survey evidence on attitudes to the greenhouse effect around the world. In the early 1990s, a number of major comparative attitude projects were undertaken which allow us unique insights into the way different countries view global environmental problems. While most of the data is on Western Europe, we now also have substantial evidence on public opinion on the environment around the rest of the world. Much of these data have only just been released into the public domain, others have never been systematically analysed with special attention to the issue of global warming.
